Southwest Gas No Longer Relights Pilots, Repairs Furnaces
Gas Company Partners with SNARSCA to Provide Referrals

by Joe Wheeler

Southwest Gas is out of the pilot light and furnace repair business.

And SNARSCA members will get the calls.

The gas company announced that as of August 15, it would no longer service residential furnace repairs nor provide pilot light relights. Southwest Gas will instead refer customers to the Southern Nevada Air Conditioning Refrigeration Service Contractors Association (SNARSCA), who will answer the call and refer association members to the customer.

Last year, Southwest gas did 10,000 calls for pilot light service and furnace repair.

Association president Mary Dille said that the association is happy to be involved with the program, and that the SNARSCA board of directors have designed a referral program that is both fair and impartial.

"We’ve set up a telephone number that is being given to all Southwest Gas customers who request service. That number will be answered by a person who will take the call and refer three A/C companies to the customer," Dille said. "The companies being referred will rotate on every call."

Contractors must be members of SNARSCA to participate in the program. The association is open to all C-21 license holders in Nevada.
