ABC And SkillsUSA Work Together To Ensure Nevada Has A Skilled Work Force

The Sierra Chapter of the Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC), the largest construction association devoted to the merit shop contractor, sposponsored the TeamWorks event at the State SkillsUSA Championship, April 24-26, 2007 at the Reno Events Center .  This event allowed promising construction career-bound students to showcase their talents before the state’s construction industry.

The competition was a huge success. Five teams from four Nevada high schools competed in the two-day contest.  Participating students had to develop and present a team action plan to a panel of judges on the first day, then build the assigned project on the second day.  The competition evaluated each contestant’s preparation for employment or further education and recognized outstanding skill in the areas of carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electricity and teamwork skills.  The state winners will go on to compete at the 43rd annual National Leadership and Skills Conference in Kansas City , June 26-29, 2007.

Sponsors who made the TeamWorks event possible include: Action Electric; Baslite; Burton Components, Inc.; City of Reno Building Department,   D & D Plumbing; Davis Company, Inc.; Electro-Tech, Inc.; Interstate Safety and Supply; Krump Construction; McMurtry Masonry; Platt Electric; Titan Supply; United Construction.
