RCAN Gets Pep-Talk From ARCA Executive Director

By C. Frederick Charles

During a dinner meeting at Macayo Vegas restaurant on Wednesday, May 23rd, members of the Roofing Contractors Association of Nevada (RCAN) heard

Dave Cohen, executive director of the Arizona Roofing Contractors Association (ARCA) describe his organization’s tremendous growth, benefits and activities.

According to Cohen, ARCA has approximately 263 members. "The goal for this year is 300. Our annual dues period is now over and roofing contractor members have renewed at a perfect 100 percent rate. We did not lose one roofing contractor that is still in business. On the associate member side, only six firms opted out, giving us a 95.73 percent retention rate in this category."

Cohen also noted that ARCA currently has some 20 committees. "One of these oversees our Youth At Risk Bowling Tournament. Last year, we gave $13,000 to this charitable group, with a goal of $15,000 for 2001. We’re also proud of the new ARCA Membership Directory – a valuable public relations and membership tool. A while back, our Board of Directors has committed to award a $2,500 scholarship each year for a period of five years to a student at the Arizona State University – Dell Webb College of Construction. The ARCA committee is currently negotiating with Pima College and the University of Arizona to offer a similar scholarship to one of these schools for students living in the Tucson area."

Other member activities and benefits mentioned by Cohen include ARCA decals/bumper stickers, a comprehensive newsletter (The Base Sheet), two annual golf tournaments, two monthly dinner meetings (Phoenix and Tucson) and regular educational seminars. "ARCA members are more than enthusiastic about serving on the association’s Board of Directors, often competing to do so, he said. Although ARCA is 30 years old, it’s been only in the last three years that we’ve made some tremendous strides forward."

During the RCAN meeting, Kasha DeBolt of Morgan & Franz Insurance, outlined benefits to be derived from Tower Health Plan 200 – a contractor’s fringe benefit plan available to association members.
