Arizona Passes Right To Repair Bill Arizona Governor Hull has signed into law HB2620, the Notice and Opportunity to Repair Act. Arizona Lawsuit Abuse Watch (ALAW), a coalition of residential construction and insurance industry businesses, encouraged members of the House and Senate to pass HR2620, a bill designed to eliminate lengthy construction disputes and costly litigation between homeowners and home builders. The bill will bring together homeowners who have a legitimate construction complaint and home builders who can address their concerns. The law is geared to eliminate costly and length lawsuits, particularly when builders are not properly notified of the complaint at the beginning. The ALAW coalition hopes the passage of this bill – which brings homeowners and builders to the negotiating table rather than to court – will encourage more insurance companies to resume writing policies for residential contractors. It is estimated that the cost of insurance has resulted in a $5,000 to $6,000 increase in the cost of a house. Unfortunately, this is occurring with no added value to the homebuyer. |
